Musical Week Catch Up

Hey Everyone

I'll admit it the Hairspray pic I did wasn't very good so I almost didn't post it but 365 full disclosure has been my policy so far.....soo don't look too hard.  It's supposed to be me as Edna Turnblad but I really didn't get it right.  Then I quick doodled this Annie icon that I practiced a bunch back when I was playing Daddy Warbucks.  Not really feeling the doodle bug today so I'm gonna sign off and get to cleaning.

Happy Doodling Everyone,
Chris

Since three separate people said The Phantom of the Opera was their favorite....I put them all in...teehee.

Title:  Wicked Daughter
My Daughter Kaci loves the musical Wicked...of course she loves a lot of musicals so I picked this one for her.  She saw it with her mother when it was here last...but I had to miss it cause I was all bald and pretending I was rich in Annie at Diamond Head Theatre.  To this date its the only musical they've seen that I haven't

sigh......

Anyhoo

Seize the Day the Takazawa Way

Seize the Day the Takazawa Way!

In case you missed it this weeks Doodle theme is Musicals.  I'm obviously a huge fan being an actor myself...or at least a Resident Manager that enjoys acting (you know since I don't get paid).....I guess you'd call that an amateur ....riiiight let me rephrase.

As an amateur actor I like musicals
much better

Anyhoooo
I asked my Facebook peeps what their favorite Musicals were.
basically because I'm lazy and couldn't decide which musicals to choose by myself.  The Totally Awesome Jared Takazawa suggested the Disney Musical "Newsies" and since I turned our friends Nita and Josh into Sweeny Todd and that chick that worshiped Sweeny Todd....

I thought I'd keep that theme going & turned Jared into a Newsie
Jared

Don't look at me like that you know you'd totally be a Newsie if you could be...you know without the whole starvation, poverty, oppression, & diseases stuff.

So here it is...

I gotta say that Mr. Jared has got to be one of the best bloggers I know (my wife's not bad either)

check out his latest hiking adventure here and I promise you'll be hooked.

and huge props to him and my wife Nikki for started their Beta round of T25 today.

Thanks again Jared for the idea and for the blog inspiration

This one goes out to our friends Nita and Josh.  When I asked what their favorite musical was Nita said Sweeny Todd.....so I decided to have some fun and make them the characters....which is why that doesn't look anything like Johnny Depp.  Thanks you guys this one was fun.

This week's theme is Musicals and/or Theatre depending on how I'm feeling...you know us actors such a fickle bunch.  This one is for all of my Paliku friends and anyone else that gets it right away.  I'm willing to take suggestions if anyone really feels strongly about a certain musical or play.... Thanks to my wife for suggesting I start with this one.

we went to the library recently and the consignment book store was open.  We were in a bit of a hurry so I had to focus on finding a good stack of reading for Connor's homework assignments, but on the way out I saw a beat up copy of
The Calvin and Hobbes Tenth Anniversary Book by: Bill Watterson
just tossed haphazardly in a cardboard box off to the side.  I snatched it instantly and turned to the volunteer clerk.
me:  "How much is this Mam?"
Clerk:  "Oh everything in those boxes is too damaged to sell."
me:  "......you mean it's......free!?!?!?"
Clerk:  " It sure is"
Me: "Awesome!!! thanks so much!"

Then I showed it to Nikki and she rolled her eyes at my silliness in her customary manner.  I enjoy reminding her that I'm a grown man child....teehee.

Love you Honey.

69-75/365 Chris Doodles week of Cosplay

Chris Doodles week of Cosplay

The closest thing Hawaii has to Comic Con is rapidly approaching.  It's called KawaiiKon and while it mainly focuses on Anime and Manga art and culture, people use it as an excuse to go in whatever cosplay they want.  We go every year and take a bunch of photos.  This year I hope to make a fun YouTube video about the whole experience.  In honor of this week's theme I decided to use it as a chance to work on my cartoon self portrait skills and dress myself up in a few of the costumes I'd love to do.
069/365
Theme: Cosplay
Title: Robin
Personally my favorite Robin is Tim Drake also known as Red Robin or Robin #3, but I wanted to stick with the traditional costume so this is supposed to be me as the 1st Robin; Dick Grayson.
070/365
Theme: Cosplay
Title: Superboy
Conner Kent also known as Superboy has always been a favorite of mine because a teenager with most of the powers of Superman plus a serious attitude problem made for a very interesting character.
071/365
Theme: Cosplay
Title:  Vulcan at ComicCon
Yes I've been to a Star Trek convention in my lifetime....in fact my mother took be to a big one in Atlantic City when I was in middle school and I was amazed.  I've never gone to one on my own and I've never cosplayed anyone from the Star Trek universe .....but someday maybe.
072/365
Theme: Cosplay
Title: Minecraft Diamond Armour
My son Connor wants to go to KawaiiKon in the Diamond Armor from Minecraft...I admit I'm procrastinating with getting started on it....grrrrrr.
073/365
Theme: Cosplay
Title:  Marko
Currently my favorite comic series...and I'm far from alone in that choice.  Saga has already won a bunch of awards and isn't looking to stop being awesome anytime soon.  If I was going to recommend any new comic to anyone it would be Saga.  It's definitely not for kids though.
074/365
Theme: Cosplay
Title: Batman
Everyone wants to be Batman....
075/365
Theme: Cosplay
Title:  Mandalorian
Most regular people see this and they think of the most famous Star Wars bounty hunter Boba Fett but technically the armor he wears is Mandalorian and there are hundreds of different versions.  Mine would be green for sure...you know if I was in the Star Wars universe....or I'd be a Jedi maybe....most likely I'd be a bartender...but I can dream.
Extra Sunday Sketch
Silly SP
Connor Nikki and I hung out at our friends The Yoshidas today and at one point I found myself with my hair up and flowers in it...sheesh I had to sketch it.. thanks Maya.

I love feedback...just saying

Theme #10: Monsters

Theme #10:  Monsters
This past week's themes was monsters and I admit it was harder to find inspiration that I had expected with this theme.  I've talking a lot with my daughter Kaci about how to become better and while what she tells me is very wise I'm not always listening.  Instead I'm marveling at how much she love to draw.  It oozes out of her in so many ways; her art, her studies, her social choices, and her outlook on life in general.  I envy how much she's figured out at her age, because I wasn't anywhere as well adjusted when I was a sophomore.  She's not perfect and has a lot to continue to work on but I believe in her, and know she'll succeed one day.

Anywho....Monsters....such a broad subject that I didn't know where to start so on Monday I just started to doodle....
062/365
Theme:  Monsters
Haunted Forest
First came the rock then the tree then the bush then the bunny.....when the sketch was done I thought okay not bad...but then I colored it and thought bleh...too tired from a day full of working out and dancing (badly but that's not the point) I just let it be.  I think sometime that's important too.  To be able to scrap a drawing or piece you're working on....or a life choice....or even a partner.  Letting go of projects that weren't meant to happen is sometimes the right and healthy choice and shouldn't be considered quitting.  Of course to use that same philosophy to quit is just as unhealthy and not letting go.  The hard part is know which is which and being brave enough to follow your heart or your gut.  Lucky for me this time it was just a choice of working on this doodle more or going to sleep.  I think I made the right choice....lol
063/365
Theme:  Monsters
Childhood Nightmares
Trolling for inspiration I asked my wife Nikki what her favorite monster was and she told me about a recurring dream she had as a child of a killer shark chasing her.  Funny part was that this wasn't happening at the beach is was in the pool of her childhood home where her grandfather raised fish.  He put a shark in the tank/pool one day and Nik started imaging it coming out of the pool and chasing her on it's flippers.  We  all know that facing your fears is healthy so I drew Nikki as a little girl (she was a tomboy so I'm told) confronting the shark.
064/365
Theme:  Monsters
Cyclops Blob Monster
Wednesday was another day where I felt stuck so while waiting for Connor to finish his hip hop and jazz classes I took out the Ipad and did this on the Paper 53 app which I think is an awesome doodling app.  This is was came out of that...
065/365
Theme:  Monsters
Chibi Monster
I've always loved the whole super cute chibi style of drawing and wanted to make an original cute monster.  I came up with this jungle cat/dragon cub.....
066/365
Theme:  Monsters
Mike W.
Honest truth even though I've been alive for a little over 30 years now...when I think of monsters Pixar's Monsters Inc. & Monsters University are the first things that pop into my head.  If I related to any of the characters it would definitely be Mike Wazowski.  People say they would guess Sully because I'm a big guy with a soft spot for kids...but really I'm like Mike deep down.  Always trying to prove myself and trying to compensate for my flaws with a witty quip or comment as well as being far to hard on myself.
067/365
Theme:  Monsters
Squishy
I asked Connor what his favorite monsters was and he went right to the Disney Pixar option with Scott Squibbles also known as Squishy.  They say that a 1,000-mile journey starts with a single step. And for MU Sophomore Scott “Squishy” Squibbles, he’s ready to do just that.  I can see a lot of similarities with Connor.
068/365
Theme:  Monsters
Shadows
For the last sketch I thought about what monster I was actually afraid of and the only thing I can remember as a kid being afraid of.....was the dark.  Irrational but Instinctual I hated the dark.  It wasn't a paralyzing fear but if I came across a dark hallway in my house at night I'd still run down it to make it harder for the monsters to get me....I've always thought the unseen/mess with your mind monsters were the only really scary ones.  Even today I'll admit an invisible monster would be extremely hard to cope with if it ever attacked me or my family.  I'm just gonna hope it never does.

ps if you're still reading awesome....just sayin.

Last Week's Theme: Adventure Time

Adventure Time
That's right this past week's theme was the awesome universe of Adventure Time.  I have to admit the first time I watched this show I really didn't get what all the fuss was about.  However a certain thespian friend of mine changed my mind about it and after giving it a fair chance I must admit it is a very funny, clever, and amazingly well thought out show.  So when I was brainstorming theme ideas this was one of the first I wrote down.
055/365
Theme: Adventure Time
Title: Finn & Jake
I keep falling behind on posting my images and that makes me put unnecessary pressure on myself to catch up which is silly for two major reasons.  One: this whole project was supposed to be fun and if it stops being fun then I should stop doing it.  Two:  I'm not sure very many people are really following this project anyway...but I really appreciate those who are.....really.

056/365
Theme: Adventure Time
Title: Mr. Jake & Finn
It's like a project and an experiment all in one.  As I draw or doodle and post I'm learning what is interesting and what's not so interesting.  I'm not going to plan my themes around what gets attention but it will help as I work on bigger projects....projects that remain in the brainstorming phase for now.

057/365
Theme: Adventure Time
Title: Ice King Beard Snare...or something

I do think I'm putting too much time into a project I entitled my Doodle project so I aim to scale down the complexity of each day's "Doodle"..lol for my own sanity's sake.

This one below is my favorite of the week
058/365
Theme: Adventure Time
Title: Group Doodle
I may have to come back to this theme again because there are a lot of interesting characters I would love to doodle.

059/365
Theme: Adventure Time
Title: Finn

060/365
Theme: Adventure Time
Title: Jake

061/365
Theme: Adventure Time
Title:  BMO

Next Theme is Monsters.....sooooo if anyone happens to have a favorite monster let me know and maybe I'll try to doodle it.
