Theme #10: Monsters
This past week's themes was monsters and I admit it was harder to find inspiration that I had expected with this theme. I've talking a lot with my daughter Kaci about how to become better and while what she tells me is very wise I'm not always listening. Instead I'm marveling at how much she love to draw. It oozes out of her in so many ways; her art, her studies, her social choices, and her outlook on life in general. I envy how much she's figured out at her age, because I wasn't anywhere as well adjusted when I was a sophomore. She's not perfect and has a lot to continue to work on but I believe in her, and know she'll succeed one day.
Anywho....Monsters....such a broad subject that I didn't know where to start so on Monday I just started to doodle....

062/365 Theme: Monsters Haunted Forest |
First came the rock then the tree then the bush then the bunny.....when the sketch was done I thought okay not bad...but then I colored it and thought bleh...too tired from a day full of working out and dancing (badly but that's not the point) I just let it be. I think sometime that's important too. To be able to scrap a drawing or piece you're working on....or a life choice....or even a partner. Letting go of projects that weren't meant to happen is sometimes the right and healthy choice and shouldn't be considered quitting. Of course to use that same philosophy to quit is just as unhealthy and not letting go. The hard part is know which is which and being brave enough to follow your heart or your gut. Lucky for me this time it was just a choice of working on this doodle more or going to sleep. I think I made the right choice....lol

063/365 Theme: Monsters Childhood Nightmares |
Trolling for inspiration I asked my wife Nikki what her favorite monster was and she told me about a recurring dream she had as a child of a killer shark chasing her. Funny part was that this wasn't happening at the beach is was in the pool of her childhood home where her grandfather raised fish. He put a shark in the tank/pool one day and Nik started imaging it coming out of the pool and chasing her on it's flippers. We all know that facing your fears is healthy so I drew Nikki as a little girl (she was a tomboy so I'm told) confronting the shark.

064/365 Theme: Monsters Cyclops Blob Monster |
Wednesday was another day where I felt stuck so while waiting for Connor to finish his hip hop and jazz classes I took out the Ipad and did this on the Paper 53 app which I think is an awesome doodling app. This is was came out of that...

065/365 Theme: Monsters Chibi Monster |
I've always loved the whole super cute chibi style of drawing and wanted to make an original cute monster. I came up with this jungle cat/dragon cub.....

066/365 Theme: Monsters Mike W. |
Honest truth even though I've been alive for a little over 30 years now...when I think of monsters Pixar's Monsters Inc. & Monsters University are the first things that pop into my head. If I related to any of the characters it would definitely be Mike Wazowski. People say they would guess Sully because I'm a big guy with a soft spot for kids...but really I'm like Mike deep down. Always trying to prove myself and trying to compensate for my flaws with a witty quip or comment as well as being far to hard on myself.

067/365 Theme: Monsters Squishy |
I asked Connor what his favorite monsters was and he went right to the Disney Pixar option with Scott Squibbles also known as Squishy. They say that a 1,000-mile journey starts with a single step. And for MU Sophomore Scott “Squishy” Squibbles, he’s ready to do just that. I can see a lot of similarities with Connor.

068/365 Theme: Monsters Shadows |
For the last sketch I thought about what monster I was actually afraid of and the only thing I can remember as a kid being afraid of.....was the dark. Irrational but Instinctual I hated the dark. It wasn't a paralyzing fear but if I came across a dark hallway in my house at night I'd still run down it to make it harder for the monsters to get me....I've always thought the unseen/mess with your mind monsters were the only really scary ones. Even today I'll admit an invisible monster would be extremely hard to cope with if it ever attacked me or my family. I'm just gonna hope it never does.
Happy Doodling
Chris
ps if you're still reading awesome....just sayin.
