004/365 Kagami Mochi Like my first drawing depicted we pounded mochi this year and got ourselves another tradition. (Mochi is made into a New Year's decoration called kagami mochi (鏡餅), formed from two round cakes of mochi with a tangerine (橙 daidai) placed on top. The name daidai is supposed to be auspicious since it means "several generations.") Huge thanks again to Barry and his family for including the Gritti's in their tradition...great fun. And thanks to my daughter Kaci for this prompt. One more day of Happy New year drawings and then on to the next weeks theme...which you'll have to check back to find out. |
